Extensive Experience & Skills
Military Career:
Small town country boy from New England who went to the US Naval Academy and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Later became a Naval Aviator, a Space Project Engineer fielding communication satellites, and Naval Acquisition Professional who helped to field the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet.
Civilian career:
Senior engineer developing and operating this country’s overhead satellite intelligence collection assets as well as developing, integrating and fielding systems for ships, aircraft and ground systems supporting satellite collection systems. That career spanned engineering, program management, and, new business development with large defense systems integrating contractors such as the General Electric Company, Lockheed Martin Corp., and BAE Systems, Inc.. Along the way, I became very conversant in hundreds of aerospace and IT technologies that needed to be studied, understood, selected, and integrated into the various system-of-systems programs.
I was intrigued and curious while looking for solutions to many challenging problems. Doing so, I became an expert in understanding and communicating highly complex technologies into simple layman’s terms when selecting and selling various technological solutions to the various strategic stakeholders and decision makers.
I know the marketing process from both sides of the fence.
Being a large systems integrator, I ended up putting solutions together to meet prospect requirements for government agencies and other Prime Integrating company customers. This involved a hefty amount of investigating and selecting various complex technologies that needed to be integrated for space, aviation, shipboard and IT system solutions. I’ve worked across an extensive array of high-technology fields with complex hardware, firmware, and software companies dealing with company executives, marketing & sales directors and agents. I’ve had to be the buyer as well as the seller of many of those different technologies. I understand the buying and selling decision processes from both sides of the fence.
Along the way, I had to write an array of various marketing content such as white papers, case studies, marketing brochures, sales presentations, etc.

I had an enviable track record of performance, having won most of my proposals against major competition. I was always able to discern the “Voice of the Customer” – their most important requirements, their most important selection criteria, and their purchasing behaviors. Our solutions had to communicate the most important features, clearly explaining their benefits, while being able to provide “the proof” necessary to enhance the credibility factor sealing the decision. I did that by writing potent and persuasive copy in a clear, concise, engaging and compelling manner. That was my “Edge”. It had always been a penchant of mine to do my own thing. Corporate life had been good to me. However, never one to shirk a challenge, I struck out on my own. I left the corporate veil and formed my own freelance company offering proposal writing, B2B technology print & online content copywriting, business strategy and capture consulting services. I’ve participated in many seminars, conferences and workshops learning from the masters like Bob Bly, Mark Ford, Steve Slaunwhite, Clayton Makepeace, Dan Kennedy and Nick Usborne.
